Aston Villa are seriously considering a move to re-sign Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to reports in the Athletic, external, after suffering a number of injuries to key midfielders Boubacar Kamara, John McGinn and Youri Tielemans.

Luiz, 27, is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Serie A side Juventus, but has only made eight top-flight appearances this term after time out with a hamstring injury earlier this season.

The former Manchester City academy player moved to Italy from Villa for 50m euros (£42.3m) plus 1.5m euros (£1.3m) in add-ons in the summer of 2024, but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular.

His loan at Forest reportedly includes an obligation to buy conditional on the number of appearances he makes, with the club also holding a 30m euros (£26m) option to buy if he does not hit that number.

Reports suggest no talks have taken place between Villa and Juventus, but the West Midlands club are exploring a potential deal.
