For a while now, the Swedish powerhouse known as Ghost has been running pretty much nonstop. World tours, the release of their latest album Skeletá, the continuance of a lore that their most devoted fanbase devours… it’s a lot. Yet with the end in sight of the ‘Skeletour,’ it sounds like there’s endless possibility for what’s coming next.
In a recent interview with Canada’s Global News, Forge reiterated the previously revealed news that there wouldn’t be a covers EP, despite that being a thing that happens between Ghost records. He also stood firm on the band’s no phones policy at their shows. But when it came to what’s next, Forge said there was very little on the docket after the currently ongoing tour.
“Besides the [North American leg of Skeletour] tour that we’re doing now, we have nothing else planned. So the future is right now very open.”
That’s not to say there’s nothing creatively he has to do or wants to do. In fact, Forge isn’t even working on a non-Ghost-related project at the moment.
“Creatively, I have a lot to do. I’m actually recording currently. But it’s not a covers EP and it’s not a new Ghost record. So, I actually do not know exactly what and when anything will happen. And that’s a good thing.”
This lack of a specific idea of what’s coming up for Ghost is a relatively new concept for Forge, as he admitted that the band’s been “going nonstop” since 2011. With zero breaks between phases for Ghost, this potential extended time off could be a worthwhile thing for Forge and folks.
“For 15 years now we’ve been going at it nonstop, where cycles have basically just sort of been stitched together. Every time we’ve ended an album cycle, I’ve walked off stage knowing that Monday morning I will be in the studio and our next show is there…
“I’ve come to a point where I’m just, like… I still have ideas, I still have dreams, I still have things that I think we have not achieved — definitely the wish list is still there — but that’s gonna be at some other point.”
Looking forward, Forge said what’s next for Ghost is up in the air. For the first time in over a decade, there’s no real huge plan. No massive itinerary or album idea that he’s got on his docket. And maybe that’s a good thing.
“As of right now, I only know that we’re doing this tour, and after that it’s a big, big, big question mark.”
