Here is a wrap up the night from Reuters:
Holders Paris St Germain and Real Madrid both failed to seal automatic spots in the Champions League knockout round as they slipped out of the top eight on a frenetic final night of group-stage action across Europe on Wednesday.
PSG could only draw 1-1 at home to Newcastle United – a result that left both sides facing a playoff despite starting the final night in the automatic places.
Fifteen-time winners Real Madrid were beaten 4-2 at Jose Mourinho’s Benfica, meaning they fell from third to ninth.
Goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored a 98th-minute header when Benfica were heading out despite leading 3-2 with seconds of stoppage time remaining, the fourth goal putting them through on goal difference.
Madrid had hoped to finish in the top eight and go straight into the last 16, but their 15 points from eight games was not enough and they finished the match with nine men as Raul Asencio and Rodrygo were sent off.
Liverpool thrashed Qarabag 6-0 to end their group campaign in style and finish in third place.
Barcelona, who began the evening in ninth spot, spared themselves a playoff tie as they came from a goal down to beat Copenhagen 4-1 and finish fifth, one place behind Tottenham Hotspur who won 2-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Chelsea came from behind to win 3-2 at Napoli with Joao Pedro’s double helping them clinch sixth spot. Defeat left Napoli down and out in 30th place.
Portugal’s Sporting grabbed a last-gasp 3-2 win at Athletic Bilbao thanks to a goal by Alisson Santos to snatch a top-eight spot and effectively relegate Real Madrid to the playoffs.
Manchester City beat Galatasaray 2-0 to jump from 11th to eighth.
Arsenal, who like Bayern Munich were already assured of a top-eight finish, became the first club in the new 36-team group format to finish with a 100 per cent record, beating bottom club Kairat Almaty 3-2. Bayern finished second after a 2-1 victory at PSV Eindhoven that left the Dutch club eliminated.

That’s all from me, good night!
Incredible moment would remind you of why you love football:
Marseille fans will be annoyed at Madrid losing their heads. They are the ones that go out on goal difference with the last moment of the game.
Remarkable scenes as Real Madrid get two men sent off in stoppage time – Asensio and Rodrygo
The goalkeeper scores! What a moment!
Benfica lead 4-2, that should put them through. Amazing! Trubin with a power header. Mourinho’s men have done it.
Goal for Sporting Lisbon against Athletic in stoppage time has big ramifications as it knocks Real Madrid out of the top 8. Alisson Santos with the goal, quite the achievement by the Portuguese side.
A sixth goal for Liverpool in stoppage time for Chiesa, 6-0 against Galatasaray.
To show the strength of the Premier League, five English teams in the top 8, Newcastle the only one to miss out as it stands, still a few minutes left there to make it six out of six.
Olympiakos score against Ajax – Hezze with it – to go back into the top 24. Marseille sneaking in, but they’re 3-0 down to Brugge. It’s all on goal difference. Benfica, Athletic Club, Pafos all in contention to overtake Marseille on 9 points.
Rashford scores from a free-kick for Barcelona to make it 4-1 there against Copenhagen.
Superb free-kick by DiMarco gives Inter Milan a 1-0 lead against Dortmund, which puts Inter in the top 8 ahead of PSG.
Goal for Chelsea! Napoli are going out, Conte again struggling in Europe as Joao Pedro scores from a good pass by Palmer. Inter not in the top 8 for long, Chelsea back there as it stands. 3-2.
Another goal for Tottenham, that should be them secured in the top 8 of the league table in 4th, impressive. Solanke with an excellent low finish.
A cracker by Saibari against Bayern Munich for PSV, which puts them back in qualifying places. Remarkably that knocks Benfica back out of the top 24.
The table as it stands, PSG are 8th on goal difference ahead of Newcastle, who they play and are currently 1-1. Chelsea and Sporting are also on 14 points, but have worse goal difference. A goal for Inter or Juventus could knock PSG out of the automatic spots.
Benfica, beating Real Madrid are currently sneaking into the top 24 in 24th, what a way to do it if it happens.
Barcelona lead 3-1 thanks to Raphinha’s penalty.
A fifth goal for Liverpool, Mac Allister gets his second, and looks like it could finish any score there.
Two more goals in Benfica and Real Madrid, Schjelderup gave them a two-goal lead by Mbappé got his second of the night to make 3-2.
What a goal! Joao Pedro smashes one into the corner for Chelsea out of nowhere to make it 2-2.
Also a goal by Barcelona as Yamal scores a deflected goal against Copenhagen. Barca move into the top 8 and Copenhagen are going out as it stands.
Ridiculous goal too by Bodo-Glimt, after a goal-line scramble for several seconds is bundled in. That would see them finish ahead of Napoli in 23rd as it stands!
There’s a fourth for Liverpool and a fourth different scorer, this time it’s Ekitike as they give Galatasaray a hammering.
Bayern Munich take the lead against PSV, Jamal Musiala is back from injury and scoring. Links well with wonder kid Lennart Karl, 1-0 up there. PSV going out.
Olympiakos take the lead against Ajax through Martins, lovely goal with good interplay with Taremi, that’s them back in the top 24 as it stands. Pafos are leading again, 2-1 against Slavia Prague but they’re one of a host of teams, 5 of them, that are just one point short of qualifying.
Goal for Barcelona, Lewandowski with a tap-in after good play by Yamal and Olmo, they’re back to 1-1 with Copenhagen.
Liverpool make it 3-0 against Copenhagen and it’s Salah back on the scoresheet. That’s more like it from Arne Slot’s side.
Goal for Tottenham at the start of the second half, French striker Kolo Muani gets it and remarkably despite their struggles in the Premier League, Spurs are 4th in the table as it stands.
Goal for Newcastle in Paris, Joe Willock scores in stoppage time at the end of the half, despite PSG dominating. It’s 1-1 there at half-time and it means Newcastle are back in the top 8 on goal difference ahead of Atletico.
Meanwhile, Benfica have pulled off a surprise from behind against Real Madrid, now winning 2-1 after a Pavlidis penalty. That still leaves them outside the top 24 by a point, as it gets tight.
Goal for Napoli, on loan Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund with a typical forward’s goal, getting ahead of the defender and smashing in a low corner. That’s 2-1 now. If it stays like that, they’d stay in the competition.
Chelsea drop to 12th with that, which works in favour of Atletico, who are back in the top 8.
Didn’t take long for Jose Mourinho’s Benfica to equalise, Schjelderup with it. Tillman scores his second to give Leverkusen a 2-0 lead over Villarreal. Sjovold scores for Bodo-Glimt to give them the equaliser against Atletico, 1-1 there.
Because of Chelsea and Atletico conceding, Tottenham are back in the top 8, despite it being 0-0 against Frankfurt. Another goal for Arsenal, Martinelli makes it 3-1.
Goal for Napoli, superb goal by Vergara, who does a swivel on the edge of the box and completely does Fofana before a low show into the corner. It’s 1-1, but Napoli still outside the top 24, need another.

Brilliant header by Kylian Mbappé to give Real Madrid the lead 1-0, he is on fire this season.
Another goal for Liverpool, this time it’s Florian Wirtz with it, the Reds looking much stronger in Europe than in the Premier League. They’d comfortably make the top 8 as it stands.
Another goal too for Manchester City, this time it’s Rayan Cherki. More great play by Doku.

Biggest changes to the table as it stands – Chelsea, Manchester City and Atletico have moved into the top 8. Club Brugge and Copenhagen moving into the top 24.
Goal for Arsenal as Havertz gives Arsenal the lead again, 2-1. Looking to have a perfect record in the league phase.
Two goals for Premier League sides – Enzo Fernandes scores a penalty, big blow for Napoli as James’s free-kick hit a player’s hand to give Chelsea the lead. Alexis Mac Allister gives Liverpool a 1-0 lead against Qarabag.
Goal for Manchester City – Haaland, set up by Doku and the Norwegian does what he does best and finishes brilliantly. PSG all over Newcastle and Vitinha scores a great goal from outside the box.
Club Brugge go 2-0 up on Marseille, while Sporting equalise against Athletic Club, 1-1 there. Leverkusen take the lead against Villarreal.
An early penalty for PSG, but Pope saves Dembele’s penalty!
Early goals though for Athletic Bilbao and Club Brugge. Copenhagen take the lead away to Barcelona.
Arsenal are already 1-1 against Kairat. Gyokeres scoring after 2 minutes, but Jorginho surprisingly equalising after seven minutes. Penalty after a Calafiori foul.
We’re under way on a busy night of the Champions League. If I had to pick a match to watch, Napoli v Chelsea is a big one, Serie A winners have to get a result or they’re out. Chelsea need to win to get top 8 position.
Tough start for them though as captain Di Lorenzo goes down with an injury within the first few minutes.
