Walkinstown is officially Dublin’s takeaway capital after two of its takeaways bagged three national awards at the Irish Takeaway Awards last night.

Both Cluck Chicken and Deano’s Woodfired Pizza scooped gongs as the capital took home eight national awards at the event. Deano’s, based at the Cherrytree Pub on the Walkinstown Roundabout, took home the Best Social Media award, while Cluck – once a neighbour of Deano’s, but now based in two brick and mortar locations on the Walkinstown Road and at The Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght – won the award for the Best Chicken Meal of the Year, and Ian Ussher took home the Chef of the Year award.

Cluck posted on Instagram: “Last night was one for the history books! Cluck showed up and absolutely smashed it at the Irish Takeaway Awards.

“We came home with FOUR awards:, Chip of the Year, Takeaway of the Year, Chef of the Year, Chicken Meal of the Year. Two of those being overall wins… CLUCK yeah, we’re still buzzing.

“Myself and Elaine are beaming with pride today. This didn’t happen overnight — it’s the result of years of graft, consistency, and doing things the right way. Huge thanks to Paul Hayden for always having my back.

“To my team of absolute legends — most of who have been with me from the early days, through the chaos, the moaning, late nights, the “trust the process” moments. This is your win as much as ours. “And to our Cluck family — our customers who show up week after week and keep this dream alive — thank you. You don’t just support a takeaway, you support a vision, and I’ll never take that lightly.”

Elsewhere, the Swords branch of Summer Inn won the Local Takeaway of the Year, Burgers Only in Clonsilla won the Chicken Burger of the Year, The Chuck Wagon in Lusk won the Sandwich of the Year, Ballymun’s Pitchside Pizza and Grill won the Takeaway Breakfast of the Year, and Mexican spot El Milagro of Tallaght’s Priory Market won the World Food Takeaway of the Year.
