Limerick will be Ireland’s hub for reality TV following a multi-million-euro production studio deal. It is hoped that generous Irish tax breaks will attract crews from across the world to make their shows here, at Ireland’s new ‘global unscripted production hub.’

One of the biggest investments in Ireland’s screen production sector in recent years was announced today following an agreement between film production company BiggerStage, Troy Studios in Limerick, and studio operator The MBS Group.

A new ‘unscripted’ hub at Troy Studios will make it a key centre for the development of original intellectual property – and a space where global entertainment formats can be piloted at scale.

Such a major boost for TV in Ireland should see an expansion of unscripted reality telly formats made here – shows like the Traitors, Big Brother, Deal or No Deal, quiz shows and cooking competitions – including shows made for an international audience.

Troy Studios is in Castletroy and is the largest and most modern production facility in the country. It already attracts international film and TV crews to Ireland. Recent productions made there include Nightflyers for Netflix, and Apple Series ‘Foundation’ – which is set to be the largest-ever production made in Ireland.

BiggerStage has produced more than 250 hours of primetime programming in Ireland, including major international formats. Notable unscripted American shows filmed here include quiz series The Floor hosted by Rob Lowe, culinary competition Next Level Chef hosted by Gordon Ramsey, and game show Don’t Forget The Lyrics.

Not only will a new production hub in Limerick bolster Ireland’s creative economy, but it should provide a big boost for training and skills opportunities, reinforcing Ireland’s position as a world‑class destination for international screen production.

As well as a 32% tax credit for film and television in Ireland, the Limerick location also makes Troy Studios very attractive to international cast and crew, as Shannon Airport is just 35 mins drive away with daily connections to Europe and North America.

The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD “This announcement is yet another strong signal that Ireland is open, competitive and ambitious when it comes to investment in the creative services sector. The creation of a global hub for unscripted production at Troy Studios will not only attract major international players to Limerick, it illustrates how Ireland has the infrastructure, talent, creativity and production expertise to lead in this space.”
