County Roscommon has become a hub for streaming fans, according to new data.

With recent miserable weather keeping more people indoors, Virgin Media Ireland — Ireland’s leading telecommunications and entertainment provider — has analysed Google Search data from the past 12 months.

Roscommon ranks sixth across the country with 741 streaming-related searches per 100,000 people.

This shows that Roscommon people are embracing streaming as a key way to stay entertained, whether they’re catching the latest TV hit like Stranger Things, rewatching a classic movie, or tuning into streaming games.

The county is home to actor Chris O’Dowd, who has appeared in films like Bridesmaids and more recently in the Black Mirror episode “Common People” in 2025 — a performance that had many viewers watching the entire season in one sitting.

The top streaming counties in Ireland are Dublin, Leitrim, Carlow, Louth, and Longford.

Leitrim ranks second with 910 searches per 100,000 people. Despite its smaller population, residents clearly love cosying up on the couch and keeping up with the world’s most popular shows. Leitrim has also appeared on screen in recent years, with the 2024 film That They May Face the Rising Sun, bringing the work of local writer John McGahern and the county’s scenery to life.

Longford is fifth with 749 searches per 100,000 people, and has also featured on screen, with GAA drama Lakelands filmed in the county, providing a strong backdrop for filmmakers.
