While footballers in the modern game still know how to enjoy themselves, they don’t do so in quite the same manner as in previous eras. Roy Keane is someone who constantly bangs on about this, with some of the fondest memories from his career coming in moments that occurred away from the pitch.
The Cork man has told some brilliant stories about his experiences on nights out and trips away with his teammates, something that usually involved drinking sessions during the first portion of his career.
That was common practice at all English clubs back then, although it seems some players were confused by the habit.

Roy Keane Had Stern Words For Man United Star After Irish Pub Take
Speaking on Stick to Football this week, the conversation turned to the importance of team bonding away from the pitch.
Roy Keane said it was something that he is a big advocate for, although he did recall one former Manchester United teammate questioning his tendency to constantly bring the team to Irish pubs during their trips abroad.
Years ago clubs would let off a bit of steam. People go ‘get back on the training pitch’. Don’t get back on the training pitch…
I remember we were on pre-season on time, with Mikael Silvestre.
You always end up in an Irish pub, don’t you? No matter where you are, you could be on the moon, and you’d always find an Irish pub.
Mikael said to me ‘Roy, why do we always end up in an Irish pub where ever we are?’
I remember looking at him and going ‘just shut up and drink’.
He thought we would have a conversation about, he wanted to go deep about it. Shut up man!
Roy Keane won’t have anybody looking down at Irish pubs like that.
It is certainly true that such establishments can be found in almost any city on the planet, although how authentically Irish many of those places are is certainly up for debate.
In any case, you won’t find an easier option for a handy pint. That is something that Keane clearly knew the value of during his time at Manchester United.
