A former garda station in Kerry will be sold at auction next month, 13 years after it closed.

Estate agents ERA Downey McCarthy are bringing the former Brosna garda station to the market by public auction.

The station closed in January 2013, and was then transferred to the Office of Public Works which has owned it since.

Efforts were made to keep the former garda station in state hands, and the property was considered on two occasions for uses by Kerry County Council, which eventually notified the OPW it would not be pursuing an acquisition last year.

ERA Downey McCarthy says it takes great pleasure in bringing to the market this protected landmark building at the centre of Brosna village.

It’s a detached, two-storey building on a site of about 0.06 hectares.

The ground floor includes an entrance hall, reception hall, public office, bathroom, kitchen, utility, and living room.

On the first floor, there are four bedrooms, a kitchen, office, and comms room, while outside there are also significant potential garden and patio areas.

ERA Downey McCarthy says the property is ideally suited for use as a family home, subject to planning permission.

The property listing also mentions it may be eligible for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant, while it is BER exempt.

The public auction takes place on 26th February at 11am, with an advised minimum value of €115,000.
