In the late 1990s, word came out that Tobe Hooper‘s son William Tony Hooper was going to be directing a short film called All American Massacre, which would see Bill Moseley reprising the role of Chop Top from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (get it HERE). What was originally expected to be a 10 to 15 minute short reportedly ended up with a running time of 60 minutes… but fans never got to see this Chop Top movie. More than twenty years after All American Massacre was filmed, it still hasn’t been released. But now, after many years of little to no hope, there’s a ray of light shining through, as the folks at DRagonSTUDIOS – who have been working on Driller Killer 2 (featuring archival footage of Denzel Washington) and a Return of the Living Dead follow-up called Trash’s Revenge – have announced that they will be completing and releasing All American Massacre!

Background

All American Massacre is set years after The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and would feature flashbacks to Chop Top’s time with his family before the events of the first movie. Incarcerated for years in solitary confinement at a Texas psychiatric hospital, one of the most notorious killers of the past century is interviewed by a tabloid news crew, recalling fond memories of happier times in his younger years. Moseley was joined in the cast by Greg Herger as Grandpa, Todd Bates as a younger Chop Top and his twin brother the Hitch-Hiker, Stephan Lokotsch as Steven, Danielle Burgio as Nikki, and Buckethead as Leatherface.

The making and scrapping of All American Massacre is so intriguing, there was even a documentary made about it, called In Search of All American Massacre: The Lost Texas Chainsaw Film.

Update

DRagonSTUDIOS has launched a CineBacker campaign with a £75,000 goal to fund their completion and release of All American Massacre. As of this writing, £11,635 has been raised, with 28 days to go.

The company writes, “The original footage has been meticulously restored. The audio has been remixed. New footage has been shot, and major stars from some of horror’s most iconic cult films will join the original cast, expanding and completing the vision of the original production and, at last, delivering the film audiences were promised decades ago.“

One of the new cast members is Miguel A. Núñez Jr. of The Return of the Living Dead and Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, who previously worked with DRagonSTUDIOS on Trash’s Revenge.

I have been hoping to see All American Massacre for more than 25 years already, so I really hope this endeavor will finally send it out into the world. Are you interested in this one? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
