Residents in Passage East have been left counting the costs following flooding last night (Friday).
The brook, located above the village, overflowed during Waterford’s Status Yellow weather warning, resulting in significant damage to some nearby homes.
The flooding impacted the area of Brookside but also spread throughout the village into Post Office Square.
Independent Councillor Declan Barry explained that the potential for the brook to overflow had been highlighted to Waterford Council in recent days.
Meanwhile, local resident Roz Cleere told WLR News the area has not received the necessary supports.
“We need the council to step up, do their part and carry out due diligence in terms of maintaining drains and gulleys,” she said.
“All the responsibility seems to have been put on the residents of the community.”
She added: “This is the last straw, we’re doing our bit to keep our community safe.”
