A site in Legan has featured on Brinsley McNamara’s Weird Ireland.

The hugely popular social media account – which chronicles the weird, the wonderful, and the highly unusual from throughout Ireland – currently has a following of 343,000 followers on Instagram, and 100,000 followers on TikTok.

On this occasion, Brinsley – while travelling through the back roads of Longford, specifically Legan – came across the gated entrance to what he later discovered was a penal era worship area.

The site itself contained a wort cure well by the gate and rows of outdoor pews in front of a stone altar.

A number of sacred artefacts can also be seen on display in a nearby whitethorn bush.
