The Nevers, the forgotten period drama starring James Norton and Eleanor Tomlinson, is now streaming in the UK. With a stacked cast and a high-concept narrative, this could be your next binge-watch.
The series takes place in Victorian-era London, focusing on a group called the Touched who find themselves with unusual abilities. Very soon, the characters find themselves engulfed in a war that threatens the very fabric of the world.
After originally airing its first six episodes on HBO in 2021, the series was abruptly cancelled, with the already-filmed remaining six instalments not hitting the small screen until the entire season was added to Tubi two years later.
Though the sci-fi period drama is almost certainly dead in the water, UK audiences can at least watch the complete story for free, with all 12 episodes now available to stream on ITVX after recently being added to the service.
In addition to Norton (Happy Valley, House of Guinness) and Tomlinson (The Outlaws, One Day), who portray Hugo Swann and Mary Brighton, respectively, the stacked cast for the series includes Laura Donnelly (Outlander), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), Olivia Williams (The Crown), Ann Skelly (House of Guinness), Pip Torrens (Poldark) and Zackary Momoh (Death In Paradise).

Though it was ultimately cancelled after just one season, The Nevers was generally praised by viewers, with IMDb currently reporting an impressive average user rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 29,000 logs.
“I am totally hooked. This is a very original series that is really refreshing. It has great characters who you become really attached to. Some of the best television I’ve seen for a long time,” wrote one user.
“It was one of the most inventive shows in the past several years. Really crisp, sharp writing, excellent acting, and a highly entertaining story. They never took the easy way out,” opined another, who added that the cancellation was a “mistake”.

Another fan was also full of praise, writing: “So far, I think this show is a cinematic master piece. Slow and deep story telling, beautiful world building and intriguing character building. It sweeps you in.”
If period dramas with a tinge of science fiction aren’t necessarily your thing, then ITVX does have plenty of other offerings, with the rebooted Gossip Girl series and Grosse Pointe Garden Society also recently being added to the streamer.
