Our pets don’t always get along, and sometimes they bicker just like human siblings. This Golden Retriever named Doug has a puppy sibling, Lily, and while the two love to play together, sharing toys is clearly not part of the deal.

Make sure your sound is on so you can hear Doug try to politely reason with little Lily over a chew toy. He starts by asking her for it (we’re convinced he even said “please”), then moves on to intense staring, a gentle grab attempt, and then repeats the whole negotiation process. It’s clear that Lily, however, is not interested in compromising and makes it very clear that the toy is not up for discussion!

We laughed when Doug’s mom said in the caption, “Doug thought this meeting could be resolved peacefully.” Doug might be bigger, but we have a feeling that the puppy is the one in charge!

Cute Reactions to Doug the Diplomatic Dog

Like us, viewers got a kick out of Doug’s negotiation attempts with the puppy, and had some cute things to say about it. @Ali J pointed out, “Poor Doug – he was trying to be so subtle and gentle to make his point – I particularly love the staring contest bit.” @Stephanie joked, “Nobody puts baby in a corner LOL!”

@Brutus & Penny asked, “Mine are like this, too. Curious, is the pup a female? My big boy lets the lil girl boss him some too.” Doug’s mom made us laugh with her reply, “Yeah, she’s a girl. Lily has had to grow up quickly with the chaos in our home LOL!” @maxsmom212 added, “She may be little, but she’s mighty lol!”

Commenter @CherryMay had some advice for Doug, “Doug. You need to show her YOU are the BOSS. Don’t let her push you about.” @Michael Adams pointed out, “Beta VS Alpha.”

“The narration…. LOL!”, said @Auggie, and that was our favorite part, too! Sometimes mom or dad’s narration just makes the whole scene that much funnier!
