A Delta Air Lines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport overnight after reports of a medical emergency on board.
Delta flight DL234 was flying from New York to Tel Aviv when it was forced to make an emergency “heavyweight” landing at Dublin Airport at around 1.17am.
The plane was around four hours into it’s 10-hour journey when the flight crew transmitted a Squawk 7700—the international signal for a general emergency. The pilot requested a diversion to Dublin due to a medical emergency onboard.
The aircraft was still early in its flight path, so was carrying a significant fuel load intended for the long-haul crossing to the Middle East. This resulted in a’ heavyweight landing procedure’ for the aircraft which was heavier than its usual landing weight.
It has been reported that paramedics on the ground transported the patient to hospital.
The flight resumed after takeoff at 5.03am from Dublin Airport.
