A man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in broad daylight in Cork earlier today. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The assault occurred at a business premises in the city centre before 1pm The victim, who is in his 40s, is understood to have been injured when he was assaulted with a bladed weapon. Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident, which occurred at approximately 12.40pm.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for treatment of injuries understood to be non-life-threatening. A man in his 30s was arrested and taken to a Garda Station in the city where he is being detained.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed investigations are ongoing, and said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident of assault that occurred on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork city this Friday afternoon at approximately 12:40 pm, 6th February 2026.

“A male in his 40s was conveyed to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A male in his 30s was arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in Cork city. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.|

Meanwhile, 167 new probationary Gardaí were attested at the Garda College in Templemore this morning. Out of 21 newly attested Gardaí now taking on operational responsibilities in the Southern Region, five will be coming to Cork. They will be working at stations across Mallow, Midleton, Togher and Gurranabraher.
