The taxpayer has just footed what is likely to be a bill of more than €1m for a deal in which DAA chief executive Kenny Jacobs will step down after months of boardroom and legal drama.

While the DAA, which operates Dublin and Cork Airports, had previously tabled a nearly €1m offer to Mr Jacobs to leave the business, Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien had refused to sign off on it.
