Westport has been officially recognised as one of Ireland’s most welcoming locations, earning a coveted place in the Top 10 nationwide in Booking.com’s annual Traveller Review Awards.

The vibrant Co Mayo town ranked eighth overall, joining other well-known tourism hotspots such as Clifden, Dingle and Kenmare in the list, which is based on millions of verified guest reviews from travellers around the world.

The awards celebrate destinations where visitors consistently experience outstanding hospitality, friendly service and memorable stays. According to Booking.com, Westport’s strong community spirit, scenic surroundings and reputation for warm welcomes helped secure its place among Ireland’s best.

The coastal village of Doolin, Co Clare was named the most welcoming location in Ireland, while the global top spot went to Montepulciano in Italy.

Reacting to the awards, James Waters, Chief Business Officer at Booking.com, said the rankings highlight the people behind the destinations.

“The Traveller Review Awards shine a well-deserved spotlight on our partners who help create lifelong memories for travellers,” he said. “From welcoming hosts who go above and beyond for guest stays, to expert taxi drivers sharing ‘local-only’ tips, these personal touches can make a trip truly special for travellers,”

The recognition is another boost for tourism in Westport and across Mayo, with the town continuing to attract domestic and international visitors for its pubs, restaurants, outdoor activities and proximity to Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay.
