Well, that was a relief…

Celtic have survived the scariest of scares in the Scottish Cup, surviving normal time by the skin of their teeth before securing progression in extra time.

In a game littered with poor individual performances, it was two of Martin O’Neill’s substitutes who made the difference in Sebastian Tounekti and winter addition Junior Adamu.

And in a season of twists and turns, this was a game that took an almighty twist in the dying embers.

We examined the Celts’ individual performances on the night…

How on earth do you begin to describe that…!

Celtic player ratings vs DundeeVijlami Sinisalo – 4

There wasn’t a great deal that Vijlami Sinisalo could do about Ethan Hamilton’s stunning strike, but those are the moments that decide your fate as a Celtic goalkeeper.

He also had several moments of untidy goalkeeping in an unconvincing performance overall.

Julian Araujo – 6

Araujo rarely looks flustered on the ball, and in his defence, struggled without the presence of Yang Hyun-Jun on his side, as he has had in most of his Celtic career so far.

But he was guilty of conceding dangerous free-kicks. in the second period, compounding his lack of attacking presence.

He was one of several Celts who notably upped the ante in extra-time, upping his rating.

A feature of Trusty’s play as a right-sided centre-back have been his switches of play, which were non-existent tonight.

His performance was more defined by headed clearances and a few daft fouls.

Liam Scales – 3

Scales didn’t cover himself in glory for Dundee’s goal, and this wasn’t his only shaky moment of the game.

He was one of many guilty of loose passes in-possession too. A poor display from a player who has set higher standards this season.

Kieran Tierney – 7

Despite being a left-back, Tierney was Celtic’s best starting winger tonight.

It was often he who delivered half-decent service into the box, and he covered a fair bit of ground both overlapping and helping Scales out defensively.

To sour matters, he sustained a late concussion, making him a doubt for upcoming fixtures

Callum McGregor – 6

As is often the case, a vast majority of Celtic’s play came through McGregor, and he didn’t do anything notably badly.

But in a performance lacking in attacking spark and intensity, the Hoops captain did little to inject either of those things into Celtic’s attacks.

Reo Hatate – 6

On an important opportunity to start, Hatate didn’t put in his worst display of the season, but you can’t help but feel that a peak Reo would’ve made the difference in a game like this.

There were also a few moments when he passed up on the opportunity to play forward, but he was far from the only player guilty of that on the night.

Paulo Bernardo – 3

Bernardo’s Celtic career is in a hole at the minute. Despite the club rejecting loan approaches for him last month, his performances simply haven’t been enough to merit more starts.

He was simply anonymous before being hooked at half-time – and not for the first time this season.

Did Paulo Bernardo kill off his Celtic career against Dundee?

He gets some marks for his positivity, but Joel Mvuka’s didn’t look like the winger that Celtic have been needing on his debut.

There’s plenty of time ahead for him to find his feet, but the fact that he was substituted at half-time tells you everything.

Tomas Cvancara – 6

Celtic’s new striker was feeding scraps for much of tonight. The team are clearly struggling to adjust to having a different kind of number nine.

However, when given the ball, Cvancara showed signs of quality in his link-up, making him one of few players to receive pass-marks.

Yang Hyun-Jun – 4

Yang’s performances as a right-winger have been one of the major positives of Celtic in recent months. Moved to the left tonight, he looked a shadow of that player.

Even on rare occasions when he was afforded space, he looked noticeably uncomfortable and far more loose in possession than in his better matches of the campaign.

SubstitutesSebastian Tounekti – 9

Talk about an impact sub…

Tounekti’s one-on-one quality hasn’t been as consistently on show as many would like this season, but his cameo today made it absolutely clear: there is a player there.

If he can keep showing that player, he will win over the entire Parkhead faithful. He saved Celtic tonight.

Junior Adamu – 8

Adamu’s instinctive run and finish were incredibly promising, and ultimately, the reason why Celtic are in the hat for the next round.

The man on loan from Freiburg couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Celtic career.

Benjamin Nygren – 8

Nygren’s cameo was also a major positive, but less of a surprise. He is one of Celtic’s form players at the minute, and injected an urgency which had been severely lacking in the team’s performance.
