If the goal of getting “disaster-ready” didn’t feature on your list of new year’s resolutions for 2026, the Government of Ireland would like to gently suggest that you rethink your priorities.

It’s a sign of the times that the Department of Defence’s Office of Emergency Planning has recently compiled a “household resilience” booklet, to be distributed to every home in the country over the next few weeks. The publication has been devised to encourage and guide the public to take preemptive steps which will help them cope in the event of, well, an emergency.
