Last month, while promoting his latest film The Rip for Netflix, Matt Damon highlighted a new issue for filmmakers, described as “second screen”. When making a film for a streaming service rather than a cinema, directors can expect the at-home viewer to be easily distracted by their phone, so they need to be sure to repeatedly hammer home the key plot points.

This “second-screen” behaviour is something many of us can relate to. The TV screen content is dragging, or you can’t remember where you know that actor from, so you reach for the phone.
