Minister of State with responsibility for flood relief Kevin Boxer Moran will visit Passage East in Co Waterford this morning to meet homeowners impacted by recent flooding.

It comes as Met Éireann is forecasting further rain in parts of the south and east today.

Mr Moran will also meet local authority officials to discuss ways of implementing a permanent solution to protect the properties of homeowners, farmers and businesspeople.

As efforts to clean up following last week’s flooding continue today, heavy showers are forecast in parts of the south and east of the country – areas that were the hardest hit by Storm Chandra.

Last night, a public meeting in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, heard calls for a flood-relief plan for the town to be agreed and fast-tracked, and for interim flood-relief measures to be taken immediately.

Around 50 people attended the meeting, at the IFA Centre in Enniscorthy.

Dozens of homes and businesses in Enniscorthy have been flooded over the past fortnight.

Wexford County Council said it has begun implementing interim flood alleviation works in Enniscorthy town centre, including the use of aqua dams which will be mobilised in times of high alert.
