In 1979, at the age of 19, Derry woman Caitriona Cunningham found herself in Marianvale, a mother and baby institution run by the Good Shepherd Sisters on the outskirts of Newry, Co Down.
The play she wrote many years later follows Kitty as she enters the institution nicknamed “The Marian Hotel” by the young women who found themselves there. It brings the voices of these women centre stage as they grapple with the devastating reality of being young, pregnant and forced to give up their babies.
