Coronation Street‘s David Platt may have had a fair few run-ins with the police over the years, but it’s less of a common occurrence for his actor Jack P Shepherd. On his podcast On the Sofa, he spoke about how he recently got pulled over by police officer, but managed to get out of trouble by giving an understandable reason for his erratic driving.

Speaking to his co-hosts Colson Smith and Ben Price, he said: “I finished work, on my way home… He comes up behind me, lights come on, it’s traffic, it’s 6 o’clock at night, it’s sort of busy.

“[So I’m like] ‘Ooh, what’s going on ‘ere?’ So he drives along the side of my car, so I had to put the window down down. ‘Hiya mate, yeah yeah yeah.’

“And he went, ‘You wanna go a little bit easy, drive a little bit easier? You’re a bit all over the road.’

“And I knew exactly what he was talking about.”

Shepherd continued: “And I went, ‘Yeah, mate, d’you know why? It’s the potholes.’ And he starts laughing.

“And I went, ‘You’ve literally driven down that road. You can’t stay in this, you have to avoid the potholes.’ I was having this chat at the lights.

“And he goes, ‘Yeah, to be fair, actually’, and he looks at the car and went, ‘You don’t want to pop one those tyres.’

“And I went, ‘Do you know how many I have popped just on that road down there? Three. In my lifetime. In the same car. Three.'”

He said that the policeman told he wasn’t surprised by by that number, before telling the actor that he thought the actor was “pissed”.

It was then that the policeman realised that he recognised Shepherd from the television, which led his co-hosts to joke that he probably got all his tickets written off (he didn’t).
