The cast delivers strong performances all around, while the cinematography and super eerie sound design all work together to create an intensely unsettling experience.

Anyone seeking a charming drama with plenty of emotion will likely enjoy “End of Sentence.” Directed by Elfar Adalsteins and starring John Hawkes and Logan Lerman in the lead roles, the movie was entirely shot in Ireland because the landscape and unique feel suited the story perfectly. Even though this drama came and went without much fanfare due to its limited theatrical release in 2019, it still received critical acclaim, and it’s definitely a charming little flick thanks to its characters and the strong acting ensemble.

“End of Sentence” follows widower Frank Fogle (Hawkes), who sets out to fulfill his late wife’s final wish by taking her ashes to a remote lake in her native Ireland. Frank asks his estranged son Sean (Lerman) — just released from prison — to join him on the road trip. Sean initially refuses but agrees after negotiating a deal that includes a promise they won’t see each other again afterward. As they travel, they attend an Irish wake, encounter an old acquaintance of Frank’s wife and pick up a hitchhiker, making the journey more eventful than either expected.
