Chris Hemsworth further hypes up the Avengers’ next battle in Avengers: Doomsday and teases the reunion we’ve been waiting for.

Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki are among the roster of superheroes confirmed to be part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, who will confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in a multiversal battle. Other returning characters include The Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts/New Avengers, the X-Men, and other Avengers who have led solo films in Phases 4 and 5.

Asked by Variety if Thor and Loki‘s reunion would be a tearjerker, Hemsworth promised — after saying “yes, no, maybe” to the reporter’s initial question — that Avengers: Doomsday is “incredibly emotional, incredibly powerful. It’s going to blow you away this one. I don’t know how they do it.” Hemsworth is currently promoting his new movie, Crime 101, which releases on Friday.

Thor and Loki’s last appearance together in the MCU was in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, where Loki is killed by Thanos (Josh Brolin) in the first scene in front of Thor. Thor subsequently appeared in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, while a version of Loki that escaped after the events of the first Avengers movie (2012) is the main character of the TV series Loki.

The alternate Loki, though not having gone through exactly the same arc as the original, is aware that he died in the “Sacred Timeline.” Meanwhile, Thor adopted a daughter in Thor: Love and Thunder, who appears in a teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. Thor’s Doomsday trailer suggests a return to a more serious tone for his characterization and storylines, which could affect his reunion with Loki.

As of Loki season 2’s ending, the god of mischief is holding together the entire multiverse. Needless to say, he and Thor meeting again will be emotional, not just because of their relationship with each other but because of all that has happened since they last saw each other. Moreover, the MCU team has made us wait for this until their biggest movie event in years.

Avengers: Doomsday is easily one of the most anticipated movies of 2025, and considering the last Avengers team-up movie (Avengers: Endgame) grossed $2.8 billion, it is likely to be a massive box office hit. Thor and Loki also led the major box office success of 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok together, grossing $854 million worldwide.

Thor and Loki were Hemsworth and Hiddleston’s major breakout roles, and they have starred in several hits as well as titles that are counted among the worst MCU movies. Both in story and metatextually, them (most likely) finally being back on-screen together will be a major milestone for the historic franchise.

Avengers: Doomsday will release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
