Those who can’t bear to go a week without dining in a high-class Michelin establishment will be glad to know that Cork now has 11 restaurants that have been given the nod at the most recent award show. While dining out has become more of a luxury amid the cost-of-living crisis, Cork is home to some of the best chefs in the world, and there are surprisingly affordable options available.
The Michelin Guide has long been associated with fine dining, but the world’s premier food reviewers actually cover a wide range of cuisines and price points. Michelin Stars are the highest honour a restaurant can earn, and even a single star above the door is a massive achievement, with only a handful of restaurants in the world earning the coveted three-star rating.
However, the company also maintains a ‘Bib Gourmand’ list, which covers restaurants that don’t quite meet the criteria to earn a star, but still serve excellent food. To earn a Bib, a restaurant needs to serve high-quality food at a fair price point, so they’re a fantastic way to experience Michelin-standard cooking without forking out hundreds of euros.
The guide also features selected restaurants that haven’t yet earned a formal accolade but have piqued inspectors’ interest. Here in Cork, we have two 2-star restaurants, two 1-star restaurants, four Bib Gourmand establishments and three selected restaurants.
Eating Michelin-standard food doesn’t always come at a three- or four-figure price, and many restaurants offer set menus that offer an affordable taste of their cooking. So, from selected restaurants to the two-star establishments, here’s what the world’s top food critics have had to say about some of Cork’s best restaurants.
Bib Gourmand restaurants
Aishling Moore, head chef at Goldie(Image: Aishling Moore)
Goldie, Cork city
Most affordable option: For every adult meal, kids get a free fish meal on the first Wednesday of every month.
Situated on Oliver Plunkett Street, Goldie is among the finest restaurants Cork has to offer, earning itself three Bib Gourmand awards since it opened in 2019.
It’s under the leadership of head chef Aishling Moore, one of the most exciting names on the Irish culinary scene, who earned the title of Ireland’s Best Chef at the 2024 Irish Restaurant Awards.
The title is certainly well deserved. Michelin critics highlight Aishling’s ‘fin-go-gill’ approach in utilising the very best of West Cork seafood, describing the restaurant as a ‘terrific buzzing little place’ with ‘sensibly priced cooking, electric atmosphere and friendly service.’
Ichigo Ichie Bistro & Natural Wine, Cork city
Japanese A La Carte Dining at an affordable price point.
Having pivoted away from fine dining to focus on a more casual offering, Takashi Miyazaki has seen no shortage of success since the reimagining of Ichigo Ichie.
Previously a Michelin-starred fine-dining experience, those sitting down at a table at the Ichigo Ichie Bistro can trust they’ll be eating masterfully prepared Japanese cuisine, just without the € 140-per-person price tag it used to command.
The Michelin guide praised Miyazaki’s more relaxed take on Japanese cuisine, serving fairly priced, unfussy dishes with high-quality produce. In particular, critics recommended the matcha panna cotta with lychee ice cream, as well as the selection of natural wines.

Chef Ahmet Dede
Baba’de, Baltimore
An affordable option for those who want to sample Chef Dede’s food without committing to a full tasting menu.
Chef Ahmet Dede is one of the most well-known names in the Cork food scene, and his flagship restaurant, Dede in Baltimore, is among the country’s top fine-dining experiences.
However, on the same street, you also have Baba’de, a more approachable and affordable style of restaurant that still draws on the dual-starred chef’s wealth of experience.
The name means ‘Baby Dede’, and the restaurant offers a more relaxed dining experience that showcases Dede’s work in marrying Turkish flavours with top-class Irish produce. Critics have praised the imaginative nature of the menu, describing each dish as ‘bright, fresh and wholly satisfying’ with Chef Dede’s signature içli köfte singled out as one of the major highlights.
Saint Francis Provisions, Kinsale
Kinsale is one of the most colourful towns along the Wild Atlantic Way, and Saint Francis Provisions does its fine reputation justice with a menu full of stunning Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
A tiny restaurant with just fifteen seats, Saint Francis Provisions offers an intimate dining experience with a concise menu that changes day-to-day based on seasonal availability.
The guide highlighted the creative use of high-quality local produce as the core of the experience, with the cod confit with red pepper deserving particular mention. Much like Ichigo Iche, Saint Francis Provisions boasts its own list of natural wines – a detail that ties the ribbon on the whole experience in the estimation of Michelin critics.
One-star restaurants
Bastion, Kinsale
Most affordable option: a €95-per-person tasting menu.
Nestled in the heart of colourful Kinsale, Bastion is run by Paul and Helen McDonald, who have been praised by Michelin inspectors for their welcoming atmosphere and innovative cooking style. Paul handles the cooking while Helen runs the front of house, and the couple have maintained their coveted star since it was first awarded in 2020.
Inspectors highlighted Paul’s playful style of cooking, which brings the natural flavours of the ingredients to the fore, with their use of local seafood being a particular highlight.

Chef Rob Krawczyk(Image: Chestnut Restaurant)
Chestnut, Ballydehob
Most affordable option: a €55-per-person set menu.
A West Cork culinary gem helmed by chef Rob Krawczyk, Chestnut is a small, intimate dining space that showcases the best produce the Rebel County has to offer. The restaurant seats only 18 people, with a number of tasting menu options available and inspectors have taken note of Rob’s creativity, highlighting the constantly evolving menu that ensures no experience is ever exactly the same.
Inspectors commented on Rob’s masterful understanding of textures and taste, with his dishes showcasing the natural flavours of high-quality ingredients.
Two-star restaurants
Dede, Baltimore
Most affordable option: a €115-per-person lunch menu.
While Baba’de is a great opportunity to sample the cooking of Chef Ahmet Dede, his two-star establishment next door is where you’ll find his finest dishes. Since opening in April 2020, the restaurant has become a must-visit spot, attracting foodies from all across the world.
Dede presents a unique fusion of Turkish and Irish cuisine, using only the best of local produce. Inspectors praised Chef Dede for his skilled laying of Turkish flavours, which manage to remain authentic without ever overpowering the core ingredients.

Chef Vincent Crepel
Terre, Castlemartyr
Most affordable option: a €110-per-person lunch menu.
Situated in the Manor House at the Castlemaryer Resort, Terre was awarded its first Michelin star within six months of opening its doors. Inspectors awarded the restaurant its second star in 2024, and it’s maintained that level of excellence ever since.
The 38-seater restaurant was opened by Chef Patron, Vincent Crepel, who combines classic French dining with strong Asian influences. Chef Crepel’s cuisine was described by Michelin inspectors as ‘sophisticated and striking’, and the restaurant highlights the best of local cuisine while also drawing heavily on international influences
