The Married at First Sight universe is expanding.
The hit franchise, which airs in numerous territories worldwide, is introducing a Second Marriage at First Sight spin-off that will see unlucky singletons who didn’t find love the first time around given a second chance.
Notably, half the contestants will be from the UK and half from Australia, with Brits paired with Australians and Australians paired with Brits. The show will therefore bring together two of Married at First Sight’s most successful versions. The group will navigate cultural clashes and old wounds before they head to Australia to meet friends and family on the other side of the world and face the ultimate decision: who will consider uprooting their life for love?
Second Marriage is the first spin-off of its kind of the hit franchise, which started life in Denmark and has been hugely successful in the UK, Austalia and the U.S., where it has just moved to Peacock.
Married at First Sight UK producer CPL Productions is behind the spin-off. It was introduced at a Channel 4 showcase in London tonight.
“These eight well-loved MAFS singles didn’t find lasting love the first time, but they haven’t given up – and neither have we,” said Channel 4 entertainment boss Steve Handley. “Everyone deserves a second chance at love and this time they’re saying ‘I do’ to a stranger on the other side of the world, risking absolutely everything for another shot at getting it right. I think it will be our greatest love story yet.”
Second Marriage at First Sight was commissioned for E4 by Handley with Vivienne Molokwu. The EPs for CPL are Murray Boland, Danielle Lux, Susy Price and Rachel Viner.
‘Derren Brown: Incognito’
Elsewhere, super magician Derren Brown is returning to Channel 4 for a high-end social experiment.
Derren Brown: Incognito [working title] will see 10 strangers with wildly different backgrounds move into a mysterious institution for seven days. Each of the strangers think they have one aim: to learn the identity of the other players whilst keeping their own hidden. Every game, every conversation and every elimination, will challenge the players’ preconceptions, making them re-evaluate the alliances they’ve made and the strategies they’ve adopted.
Brown described the show as a “fascinating new venture.” He used to be a regular fixture on Channel 4, fronting specials and a Derren Brown Investigates series. Vaudeville Productions is producing Incognito.
