Site prepared at Tralee Town Park for sculpture honouring Kerry’s revolutionary women.

Plans to erect a sculpture in Tralee Town Park honouring Kerry women from Ireland’s revolutionary period have sparked controversy after 50-year-old trees were cut down to make way for the artwork.

The art commission was originally initiated by five female county councillors in 2023 via a notice of motion aiming to commemorate the vital role of women in the struggle for Irish freedom between 1912 and 1923 and their contribution to shaping a new Ireland.
