Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series is fast approaching, with the Unpacked date firmly secured for the end of February, just a few weeks from now. However, as leaks and rumors continue to increase in frequency, we are learning more about what the Galaxy S26 may or may not have, including Qi2.
While the Galaxy S26 is expected to support Qi2 wireless charging, rumors indicate the phones won’t include built-in magnets. This means that, unlike the Pixel 10 series, which can use MagSafe chargers with ease, Galaxy S26 devices will require cases to take advantage of Qi2’s magnetic charging.

One reader, Jack Booth, sees the rumored lack of built-in magnetic charging as an obvious example of Samsung’s lack of innovation:
“I love Samsung and have an s24U but this is a bit cheeky,” Booth comments on Facebook. “There’s so little innovation year on year with them they could have at least put this in.”
Another reader, Alfredo Rodriguez, agrees, noting how it requires users to spend more money on cases:
“Yes. I’m tired of having to buy more expensive cases because they have the magnets built in. The phone having magnets already built in means I could buy a lot more reasonably priced cases. I like the new camera island and was liking that the magnets were in but this is definitely not a worthy upgrade from my S25 Ultra.”

E. Oliver on X also notes that they always use a case with their phone, so requiring one for magnetic charging wouldn’t change anything.
Since my phone is always in a case it would not be a deal breaker. Especially since I don’t wireless charge any device because it diminishes the battery.Alternatively there are aftermarket magnets if you really need to not have a case on it and want to charge it wirelessly.February 9, 2026
