Doctor who liaised with family tells of their fears leading up to the death of dad in luxury hotel

John McGowan was steeling himself for the long night ahead. He had stayed awake watching over his mentally ill son many times before. He knew how to get through it, he assured Dr Lisa Cunningham.
“He wanted to mind Henry and keep him safe,” Dr Cunningham told the Irish Independent this week. “So that was the plan. He was going to sit up with him all night and the following morning they were going to get a taxi to a nearby hospital.”
