A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a man in Belfast earlier this week.
Isaac Koko, from Cromwell Road in the south of the city, appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court charged with the murder of Ahmed Abdi on Wednesday.
Police officers went to Mr Koko’s flat following the report of a “concern for safety”.
The victim was found injured and taken to hospital but died later.
A PSNI detective inspector told the court that during five interviews over a two-day period, Mr Koko had denied the charge and claimed he had acted in self-defence.
He said the defendant also said that both he and Mr Abdi had consumed a large amount of alcohol.
Mr Koko, from Sudan, spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charge.
There was no application for bail and Mr Koko was remanded in custody to appear in court again next month.
