Spider-Man’s latest series can redeem a missed opportunity from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Tom Holland is returning as the famed webslinger in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but there is another unique Spidey project releasing before that: Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, which is set to debut on May 27.

Spider-Noir focuses on Ben Reilly, an alternate Spider-Man and a private investigator who works in New York in the 1930s. Reilly is played by Nicolas Cage, reprising his voice role in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in live-action. The rest of the cast includes Li Jun Li, Brendan Gleeson, Jack Huston, and Lamorne Morris.

The series is set in an alternate universe, featuring unique adaptations of familiar Spider-Man characters. One such character hasn’t been in a live-action Spider-Man project since 2014, giving Spider-Noir the perfect chance to do something no movie so far has done.

Spider-Noir has an impressive lineup of Spider-Man characters, including Huston as Flint Marko, a.k.a. Sandman, Gleeson as Silvermane, and Morris as Robbie Robertson. Another notable character is Li’s Cat Hardy. Though the name is slightly different, Li’s character is an alternate version of Felicia Hardy a.k.a. Black Cat.

In Marvel Comics, Black Cat is a talented burglar who uses her skills to pull off lucrative heists. She is an anti-hero, and has a romantic history with Spider-Man. According to Esquire, in Spider-Noir, she is a singer at a nightclub “who lures Reilly into the underworld conspiracy at the center of the series.”

Felicia Hardy first appeared in live-action in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, played by Felicity Jones. While this is a different version of the character from Jones’ portrayal, Spider-Noir can finally do something that The Amazing Spider-Man series never did.

Spider-Noir Could Include Black Cat In Her Suit For The First Time In Live-Action

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Felicia is Norman Osborn’s former assistant, who begins working for Harry Osborn after Norman dies. Her role is rather limited in the film. There is a lot happening in the movie, including Spider-Man’s conflict with Electro, Harry’s attempt to cure himself of a genetic disease, and Peter’s relationship with Gwen Stacy.

Her role could have been expanded in the next film, but The Amazing Spider-Man 3 never happened, and Jones never got the chance to put on the Black Cat suit. Fortunately, Cat Hardy’s inclusion in Spider-Noir means the series could be the first live-action Spider-Man project to include Black Cat in her suit.

However, the first Spider-Noir trailer didn’t show Li suited up, so there’s no confirmation that this will happen. Additionally, it would likely look different from what comic book readers are familiar with, given the show’s 1930s setting. Still, Spider-Noir is the best chance of finally seeing Black Cat’s suit in live-action in over a decade.
