Several food products were removed from supermarket shelves this week after being recalled over food safety fears.

Below is a round-up of the food recall notices issued over the past week, with cheese, cupcakes and soup products sold in Irish stores among the items shoppers have been warned to avoid.

Homebake Cakes 6 Luxury Assorted Cupcakes

A batch of popular sweet treats sold in Irish supermarkets were urgently recalled on Wednesday, with health officials issuing a warning to shoppers.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued the alert over a specific pack of Homebake Cakes 6 Luxury Assorted Cupcakes, due to an undisclosed allergen.

The recall applies to batch code 6864, with a best before date of March 20, 2026.

Consumers are advised not to eat the cupcakes if they have any allergies or intolerance to hazelnuts.

The FSAI said: “The above batch of Homebake Cakes 6 Luxury Assorted Cupcakes contains nuts (hazelnuts) which is not declared in the list of ingredients. This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of nuts (hazelnuts) and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch. The affected batch is being recalled.”

Exposure to hazelnuts can trigger a range of allergic reactions. Common symptoms include itching or swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat, skin rashes, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

In severe cases, a life threatening reaction called anaphylaxis can occur, which requires immediate medical attention.

Mauri Formaggi Taleggio Bon Ta’leggio D.O.P. cheese

The FSAI issued a separate recall notice on Wednesday for a batch of Mauri Formaggi Taleggio Bon Ta’leggio D. O.P. 200g, which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous bacteria capable of causing severe illness.

The impacted cheese carries the use by date 02.03. 2026 and batch code 4564914.

It was available in numerous shops throughout Ireland, including SuperValu.

Shoppers are being warned not to consume the product and to get in touch with the retailer where it was bought for a full refund.

Listeria infections can vary from minor flu-like symptoms, vomiting and diarrhoea, to serious complications in at-risk groups. The FSAI warned symptoms can take up to 10 weeks to emerge.

Hortex Zupa Wiosenna 9-Składnikowa

A batch of Hortex Zupa Wiosenna 9-Składnikowa (9 Ingredient Spring Soup) has also been recalled due to the possible presence of glass fragments.

Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display a recall notice at point-of-sale and consumers are advised not to drink the implicated batch.

The recall has been issued for the Hortex Zupa Wiosenna 9-Składnikowa (9 Ingredient Spring Soup); frozen; pack size: 450g, with the batch code: LS0C1070925 2 T 080925 1117 the best-before date: 03/2027, and a Poland country of origin.

JM Food Services Gratin Potato

A popular potato product was pulled from shelves this week after safety chiefs issued an urgent health warning for a specific batch.

The recall affects a specific batch of JM Food Services Gratin Potato after it was found to contain sulphur dioxide, which is not listed in the ingredients.

A ‘do not eat’ warning has been issued to people who are allergic to or intolerant of sulphur dioxide, as the ingredient could pose serious health risks.

The recall is for batches of JM Food Services Gratin Potato pack size of 650g and with a Use by date of 29/01/2026.

The FSAI said in a statement: “Sulphur dioxide is incorrectly declared on the ingredients list of the above batch of JM Food Services Gratin Potato.

“This may make this batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of sulphur dioxide and sulphites and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch.

“Although this batch is now past its use by date, it is labelled as suitable for home freezing. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch.”

Sulphur dioxide is commonly used as a preservative foods. People who are allergic or intolerant may experience symptoms such as headaches, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, skin rashes, hives or nausea. In severe cases, it can trigger an asthma attack or other serious reactions.

KSK Boy Bawang Cornick Lechon Manok Flavor

On Friday, the FSAI issued a recall notice for certain batches of KSK Boy Bawang Cornick Lechon Manok Flavor (Corn Snacks Roasted Chicken Flavour).

The implicated batch contains cereals containing gluten (wheat) which is not mentioned on the label.
