The I’m Grand Mam duo of PJ Kirby and Kevin Twomey have left the Late Late Show audience in stitches over PJ’s mum receiving special treatment at Mass.

Cork podcasting duo PJ and Kevin appeared on the Late Late on Friday night during the chat show’s Valentine’s Day special, with their podcast stemming from their living in London and the one phrase every emigrant has probably said: ‘I’m Grand, Mam.’

Speaking on their relationships with their mothers, PJ said that his mum is a very Catholic woman who loves her mass — and that she’s even built a rapport with her priest when she misses mass.

‘She loves mass, Sunday’s her favourite day,’ PJ told host Patrick Kielty. ‘And when she can’t go to mass — because she’s sick or something — she watches it, streams it.’

While streaming of mass ended up being one of the convenient parts of the COVID-19 lockdowns, PJ revealed that while his mother’s okay with streaming, she misses a key part of the service — namely, the Holy Communion.

However, he revealed that his mum’s parish priest has her covered with an ingenious way to give her the full experience: drive-by communions.

‘You need that body of Christ,’ PJ said while Kevin echoed: ‘we all do.’

‘But, shoutout — is this my camera — if you’re the priest in Clogheen, I just want to say thank you so much, because the last time she was at mass, he was like: “take my number, if you need communion, give me a WhatsApp and I’ll pop it down to you.”‘

‘It’s a drive-by,’ Kevin chimed in, while PJ added: ‘it’s a modern Ireland, lads. Communion Deliveroo.’

Kevin joked that despite the brilliance of a drive by communion, he reckons that PJ’s mum’s friends might be raging over her special treatment from the priest, while Kevin had the stroke of genius when he thought that if the body of Christ can be served at home, why not the blood.

‘I love if he’d do the blood,’ PJ said. ‘Because if it was past 10 o’clock [when off licences close], I’d be like “order the blood of Christ.”‘

People loved the duo on the Late Late, with Kayleigh Trappe commenting: ‘AMEN,’ while another added: ‘These guys are absolute STARS. Comedy gold. Love them both.’

‘Love the boys ! So funny and dotes,’ another added, while another commented: ‘love these kings.’
