Six counties have been issued with a yellow weather warning for ice as temperatures are set to plunge on Monday evening.
The UK Met Office has confirmed the warning for all six counties in Northern Ireland, which will come into effect at 8pm on Monday, February 16 and remain in place until 10am on Tuesday, February 17.
Showers throughout the day, followed by temperatures dropping below freezing, could see ice forming in areas that have not been treated, reports Belfast Live.
The Met Office has also warned that further rain showers throughout the night could impact roads and pavements that have been treated and has warned of the risk of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
“Showers through the course of Monday will leave many surfaces wet by the evening, with a risk of ice forming on untreated roads and pavements during Monday night as temperatures fall to or below freezing, the Met Office forecast reads.
“A few additional wintry showers may feed inland at times overnight, potentially washing off treatment before skies once again clear and surface temperatures drop.”
Advice has been issued to those who will be leaving their homes during the weather warning, saying: “Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.

Roads could be icy with temperatures set to drop
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
As of Monday afternoon, no weather warnings had been issued by Met Éireann for the Republic of Ireland amid the possibility of snow in several areas, particularly on high ground, and temperatures dropping to as low as -3 degrees on Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday morning.
