EXCLUSIVE: “Does Barra Creek get many body parts lodged inside dead reptiles?,” asks a puzzled Detective Dulcie Collins as she inspects a crocodile in Prime Video‘s crime comedy series Deadloch Season 2.
A trailer for the six-part series has dropped, and you can see it for the first time above. We’re must over a month out from its global launch in more than 240 Prime Video territories on March 20.
The trailer sees Australian detectives Collins and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) as they head to the country’s sweltering Top End, otherwise known as the Northern Territory. In Darwin, they investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner Bushy, but the discovery of a body part in the remote town of Barra Creek diverts their plans. As Norther Territory police focus on the large-scale investigation for two missing backpackers, Dulcie and the very reluctant Eddie are tasked with identifying the John Doe.
Prime Video is billing the series as Deadloch‘s Tropical Gothic era, with a cast of eclectic locals from a world of crocodile-fuelled tourism, overstretched Indigenous rangers, cagey locals and huge reptilian predators.
Starring alongside Box and Sami is the returning Alicia Gardiner, who plays Dulcie’s possessive wife Cath. New cast includes Luke Hemsworth, Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Jean Tong, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J. Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, Ines English, Lennox Monaghan, Reiden Corpus and Storm Murgha.
Season 1 of the show was a breakout hit for Prime Video, reaching the top 10 in 165 countries, including the U.S., UK and Canada. It won several AACTA Awards and was nominated for an International Emmy.
Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan are the writers and creators of the show. They also serve as executive producers alongside Kevin Whyte, Tanya Phegan and Ben Grogan from Guesswork Television. Andy Walker is the producer, and the series is directed by Beck Cole and Gracie Otto. Deadloch is produced by Guesswork Television, OK Great Productions and Amazon MGM Studios.
“We cannot wait to share Season Two of Deadloch with fans worldwide on March 20,” said Sarah Christie, head of Australian and New Zealand originals, Amazon MGM Studios. “Season One proved that authentic and bold storytelling transcends borders, fast becoming both a critical success and cultural phenomenon not just in Australia, but internationally.
“The success of Deadloch is a testament to the creative force of Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan who have again delivered a brilliant, funny and moving second season, this time taking audiences to the sweltering and utterly unique world of the Top End.”
