A man who was allegedly seriously assaulted in Monaghan town last January has died. 

It’s understood Declan Wallace was found dead at his home in Ballybay yesterday morning.

It’s not yet known how Mr Wallace had died. The Castleblayney native who was aged in his 40s was left in a coma following the aftermath of an alleged serious assault on him on the North Rd in Monaghan 13 months ago.

Three people are currently before the courts in relation to the alleged assault that involved a steel baseball bat.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced as of yet for the father of one

Gardaí say they were alerted following the discovery of a body of a male (40s) at a residential property in Ballybay, Co Monaghan  on the 17th February.

The local Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination arranged. The outcome of the which will determine the course of the investigation.
