Limerick paramedic to feature in behind the scenes TV show filmed on the job

A NEW TV series will give behind the scenes coverage of being a paramedic out on emergency calls.

Through the eyes of newly qualified and student paramedics, people will see call responses, theory reactions and how they felt afterwards.

Annemarie Woodage features in the series. The 38-year-old is originally from London and moved to Bruree with her family and has now settled in Ballingarry.

“I’ve always looked after people and cared for people,” Ms Woodage said.

She originally did a degree in construction management and engineering, but never worked in that area and got a job as a care assistant in St Joseph’s Foundation in Charleville after she graduated.

A good friend that she worked with there had always dreamed of being a paramedic, but sadly he passed away and never got to realise that dream.

“I looked into it and the more I looked into it. I realised this is exactly what I was born for, what I could do,” she said.

While Ms Woodage said that some calls can be tough, but there is great peer support.

“There is always someone you can talk to and listen to.”

Being filmed on the job isn’t something many people are used to, but Ms Woodage said that she got used to it quickly.

“I forgot that the cameras were there to be honest,” she said, adding that it was strange for people being attended to, to see the camera crew.

“I didn’t mind opening up and showing everybody what it’s like to be a paramedic,” Ms Woodage said, explaining that it can help to break down misconceptions people have.

First Timers on the Front Line starts on Virgin Media One this Wednesday, February 18 at 9pm and Ms Woodage features in episodes two and three.
