The drop back to two miles looks ideal for SECRET DES DIEUX, who shaped as if ahead of his mark when sixth in the notoriously strong Timeform Novices’ Handicap at Cheltenham on Trials Day last month. Not for the first time, he left the impression the longer trip stretched him, and he should be much happier back in trip. Hypotenus, who hasn’t kicked on since opening his chase account, but drops back in grade here, looks the main danger.

This is a weak maiden, and looks an excellent opportunity for IDAHO VALLEY to open his account under Rules. He was a winner on his only start in Irish points and has proved consistent over hurdles, hitting the frame on numerous occasions and, though he wasn’t at his best at Carlisle last time, he faces weaker opposition now. Ex-French recruit Lejo du Seuil remains capable of better for his new yard and looks the likeliest danger.

CARPE DIEM left his previous efforts in this discipline behind when bolting up in a first-time visor over course and distance a fortnight ago, dominating his rivals from the front and, provided the headgear is just as effective once more, David Bridgwater’s eight-year-old is strongly fancied to defy a 10lb rise in the weights. The obvious threat is Dublin To Milan, who is very much the type to flourish over fences (made frame all three starts in points) and needs monitoring on his return from 10 months off.

KOM TU VOUDRAS was a flop for Willie Mullins, but maiden hurdles don’t come much weaker than this and, on the pick of her form, she looks the one to beat on her first start for Faye Bramley. Midnight Venture showed ability when second in a Chepstow bumper, and rates the main threat despite a two-year absence, while Blue Marvel can also make her presence felt.

POSTPONED LEGACY returned from a short break as an improved model late last year, registering back-to-back victories at Doncaster and Uttoxeter, prior to a solid second from his much-inflated mark at Wincanton five weeks ago. He’s just 1lb higher in the weights now and rates the most solid option, over For Old Times Sake and Glancing Back, both of whom rate likely improvers now their attentions are switched to handicaps.

NATUS VINCERE never figured despite being well supported on her respective stable and handicap debut at Leicester last month, yet that run is probably best overlooked, as she looks worthy of another chance from a lowly mark with Sean Bowen taking over in the saddle from an amateur rider who was having her first ride under Rules. After Many Days surely has a race of this nature in her grasp, and is feared most, with Kellebelle completing the shortlist.

THRUTHELOOKINGLASS is getting a clean run at his racing for the first time in his career and can defy a 4lb higher mark to go one better than when a clear second at Lingfield last time. Dangerous Touch is still low mileage over fences, and showed more to like at Ayr on his last completed start, whilst Theyseekhimthere is a fascinating contender 14 months on from his winning chase debut, soneeds monitoring in the market.
