Hallow hit an incredible milestone on Ash Wednesday, reaching the first-place spot on Apple’s Top Downloaded apps chart.

Hallow, a Catholic prayer app, hit an incredible milestone on Ash Wednesday, reaching the first-place spot on Apple’s Top Downloaded apps chart.

Hallow is a prayer and meditation app that combines the peace and stillness of meditation with the spiritual growth of contemplative prayer. It features over 10,000 sessions of audio-guided prayers led by familiar speakers like Jonathan Roumie, Fr. Mike Schmitz, Bishop Barron, Mark Wahlberg, Sr. Miriam James SOLT, Jeff Cavins, Dr. Scott Hahn, and many others.

On Apple’s chart ranking all apps, Hallow vaulted to first place February 18, leaving behind some of the most popular secular apps like ChatGPT and WhatsApp.

Join Jonathan Roumie, Fr. Mike Schmitz, Mark Wahlberg, Chris Pratt, Sister Miriam, Jeff Cavins, Mother Olga, and more this Lent for Pray40 — a journey back home to the Father with The Brothers Karamazov and the Return of the Prodigal Son by Fr. Henri Nouwen. We’ll see how Dostoevsky’s famous novel brings the Parable of the Prodigal Son to life like never before, showing us how we’re all farther from God than we need to be. The good news is God is waiting for us each with open arms, running out to meet us while we are still a long way off. Join us today as we let go of what holds us back, return home to the Lord, and let Him send us out as His hands and feet.

Hallow’s co-founder, Alex Jones, celebrated the milestone with an X post:

GOD!! YOU HAVE OUTDONE YOURSELF AGAIN!

FOR ONLY THE SECOND TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE APP STORE, JESUS IS #1!

LORD LET IT BE ALL ONLY FOR YOUR GLORY LORD

His words about “the second time” could refer to Hallow having already reached a #1 spot in 2024. Another app, the YouVersion Bible, has also had wild success with 1 billion downloads.

The app ranking is not to be confused with Fr. Mike Schmitz’s Bible in a Year podcast, which is the top religious podcast of all time.

On his Instagram page, Jones shared some of the responses he’s received thus far to the Lent Pray40 challenge:

Thank you to you and everyone for creating such an amazing resource. I haven’t done Lent since I was 5 or 6, now my whole family is doing it. Because of your app.

Day 1 was FABULOUS. In 2 years, Hallow has improved my life/soul in immeasurable ways.

I signed up two days ago and have been faithfully and gratefully listening to the prayers. At Mass today, I already felt a renewed connection.

Can’t wait to download when I finish work. Perfect time at the beginning of Lent.

Just listened to Day 1 of the Pray 40 – absolutely beautiful.

Now is indeed a perfect time to join the Hallow community, with a simple and free download in the app store. There are plenty of prayers available on the free version, but interested users will find even more religious and prayerful content under their subscription plan. Visit Hallow’s official website to learn more about their vast array of offerings.
