A woman in her eighties experienced a “frightening incident” on the Ennis Road, Limerick.

Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, Sergeant Michelle O Halloran said: “at approximately 8.20pm, a woman in her eighties was stopped at the traffic lights at Union Cross on the Ennis Road when a male approached her vehicle, opened the passenger door and took her handbag from the passenger seat before leaving the area on foot.”

The sergeant appealed for any witnesses who may have observed anyone acting suspiciously at the Ennis Road at 8.20 pm on February 10 to come forward to gardaí.

Ms O Halloran gave the following advice to the public to deter criminals: “Keep handbags and valuables out of sight — ideally in the boot — and remain aware of your surroundings at junctions and pedestrian crossings.”

“It’s a reminder to motorists to always lock their doors, even when stopped in traffic or pedestrian crossings.”
