The Wonder Woman prequel series, Paradise Lost, finally gets a definitive DC Universe update from James Gunn.

Following rumors that Paradise Lost had been quietly cancelled, Gunn was asked on Threads if there was any truth to it. The DC Studios co-CEO responded to a user on Threads, “Definitely not. Jesus I go on Threads for the first time in weeks and it’s just one insanely wrong thing after the other. What is going on?”

The initial rumor about the Paradise Lost TV show having been cancelled came from John Rocha earlier in February, as he had claimed on Geek Buddies that “Sources are telling me that DC was meeting with writers for Paradise Lost, was taking pitches for Paradise Lost, but they’ve been informed that the project is dead. Paradise Lost is dead. Will not be happening as a TV show. And not dead in the sense of like, well, they’re just going to wait for a script.”

Rocha continued sharing, “They’re being told, these writers and these people who’ve pitched storylines for Paradise Lost to be the showrunners or the writers on Paradise Lost, they’ve been told that this project is now dead, no longer an active development. Dead. And that is a massive bit of news because I think a lot of people felt that it was a little weird that you were going to do a Themyscira show but not have Wonder Woman in it.”

Paradise Lost has been in the works since the reveal in January 2023 as being part of the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate. The potential series, which has been in the writing stages, would center on Themyscira before the birth of Diana Prince.

However, it has yet to be revealed which writer or creative team is working on Paradise Lost, as the show hasn’t been formally picked up to series. DC Studios is also developing a Wonder Woman movie, with Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira penning the script.

No actor has been cast yet as the new Wonder Woman, as Diana’s reboot has not only not been formally greenlit, but also doesn’t have a director attached as of right now. Paradise Lost, if it moves forward, would air on HBO Max, and most likely, also on HBO.
