The women behind the much-loved matchday soup at Finn Park have spoken for the first time about how their tradition began.

Margaret Patton and Pat Floyd will be back in their familiar positions in the Finn Harps shop tonight for the first home league game of the season against UCD.

The popular pair from Ballybofey told Press Record Videos-Donegal (below) how they first began making soup in their own kitchens before bringing it to a small wooden cabin at the Navenny Street ground.

They later teamed up with the Finn Harps Supporters Club to improve facilities and, over the past 28 years, have helped raise several hundred thousand euro for the cash-strapped club.

“If you volunteer, you have to stay because you don’t get away from Finn Park that easily,” they laughed.
“But it’s Ballybofey — it’s our town and Finn Harps is our club. Anything we do, we do for the club.”

Well done to Margaret and Pat — and you can catch a cup of their famous soup tonight.
