Hundreds of popular children’s books have been recalled from Ireland due to a safety hazard.
Ladybird Books Limited is carrying out a recall of specific printings of Ladybird Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee picture books for children. There are approximately 856 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.
A glitter varnish coating on the books may peel off. If children place these peelings in their mouths, they may be at risk of choking.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said that if you bought one of the above products, please stop use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.
If you purchased one of these products, please refer to the book’s ISBN and Unique Print Number to ensure it is an affected copy. It can then be returned to the retailer where it was purchased for a refund, no proof of purchase is required.
For further information or if you have any questions or queries on this recall, you can contact Ladybird customer services by email at customersupport@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk.

The CCPC said: “The products present a risk of choking. Due to a manufacturing fault, the glitter varnish finish on the book covers may lift and can then be peeled off in flakes which can fragment further. A child may put such fragments in their mouth and choke.
The brand is Ladybird. The affected products have the following Unique Print Numbers and ISBNs with a glitter finish, and the print location is listed as ‘Printed in Great Britain’ or ‘Printed in the United Kingdom’.”

Ladybird said that the recall is a “precautionary measure.”
“If you have a copy from any of the printings listed above please take the book away from small children and return it to the retailer you bought it from for a full refund (there is no need to produce a receipt). No other printings of the titles included in this product recall or any other titles are affected by this issue.”
