A man in his 60s has died after his car entered the water at a pier in Mayo this week.
On Wednesday, Gardaí and emergency services were rushed to the scene after reports a car had entered the water at Belderrig Pier, in Mayo at around 8:15pm.
The driver of the car, a man in his 60s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardaí confirmed the local coroner was notified and the man’s body was removed to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to a fatal incident in which a car entered the water at Belderrig Pier, Co. Mayo, at approximately 8:15pm on Wednesday 18th February 2026.
“The male driver aged in his 60s, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The local coroner was notified and his body was removed to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.”
