One Cork man had a lucky week after he won the top prize on a Lotto scratch card – bagging an impressive €75,000 on the €5 All Cash Platinum card.
The rush of double and triple checking your eyes aren’t deceiving you and that you have in fact just become €75k richer must be an exhilarating feeling most of us can’t even imagine, but he somehow had to contain his excitement.
The player didn’t want to tell anyone he had won the money before he was able to tell his wife in person, but their opposite work schedules made that a bit difficult.
The couple often work opposite shift patterns and can go days without seeing each other – so he had to sit on the news for two whole days before he managed to get a chance to tell her.
He said: “My wife was the first person that I told but due to our shift patterns that week, it took two days before I could even share the news. I haven’t thought of what to do for myself just yet, but my wife needs a new car so that’s the first thing on the list!”
The winning scratcher was bought at the Costcutter store at O’Brien’s Service Station on the Bandon Road in Bishopstown, Cork – where the team will no doubt also be celebrating.
Meanwhile tonight’s EuroMillions Mega draw is set to see the jackpot guaranteed at €130 million and tomorrow night’s Lotto jackpot is set to roll towards an estimated €10.8 million with tickets available nationwide ahead of the 7.45pm deadline on Saturday evening.
