International rugby has been far from pretty for Ireland in recent weeks but the last 24 hours have changed the complexion.

Ireland U20s faced a daunting challenge away to England U20s but they produced an almight shock as they came from behind to win 31-21 in Friday’s clash.

The senior team would continue to emulate the U20s’ results on Saturday, with a phenomenal 41-21 win over England at Twickenham.

The picture prior to this weekend had not been pretty, but things all of a sudden feel very different for Irish rugby with both teams jumping to second place in their respective competitions.

Andy Farrell’s Ireland U20s tribute

The impact of the underage side’s exploits was not lost on Ireland senior head coach Andy Farrell when he reflected on his own team’s win.

We was down in the dumps two weeks ago wasn’t we?,” he told RTÉ after the win.

“And even last week (despite the win).

“Our 20s got over the line as well which was a phenomenal win for them and that inspires you as well.

“We know where we are going – I didn’t care whether we won or lost, just that we grew as a group and the respect we had for the shirt showed to each other how much it means to play for Ireland.”

Nice for Andy to mention the U-20s in his interview there ☘️#ENGvIRE

A nice touch from the Ireland boss.

The players were fully deserving of his acknowledgement, with one piece of high rugby IQ skill playing its’ part in their comeback win.
