Following the launch of flagship Pixel 10 last year, Google has recently introduced the midrange equivalent in the form of Pixel 10a. To summarize, the new offering is effectively a minor update of the Pixel 9a, but there are some design changes made, including a complete lack of camera bumps. Rejoice.

While the impression of removing the admittedly unpleasant camera bump on the Pixel 10a may suggest some kind of hardware upgrades, bad news: there isn’t one. You’re looking at the same exact imaging hardware that already powers the Pixel 9a, only that Google has managed to tuck the bump inward just enough for it to sit completely flush. In other words, you get a 48MP main sensor, plus a 13MP ultrawide; unfortunately, there’s no telephoto lens to be found here.

But hey, at least you won’t have to deal with unsightly amounts of dust accumulating around the edges like virtually every other smartphone does. Speaking of which, Google says there’s more recycled materials used in the construction, with the outside continuing to feature the aluminum frame and plastic back cover combination in four color options: Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian.

The upgrades can be listed within this paragraph: first, the front glass is now upgraded to Corning Gorilla Glass 7i; beneath that, you’ll find the 6.3-inch Actua display that delivers 11% higher brightness over Pixel 9a (2000 nits vs 1800 nits HBM, 3000 nits vs 2700 nits HDR peak). Pixel 10a is also the first among the midrange Pixels to feature satellite SOS support, while charging is upgraded to 30W wired and 10W wireless charging.

Despite that, battery capacity remains the same at 5100mAh, and the Tensor G4 chipset remained unchanged from the predecessor, so don’t expect any measurable improvements in endurance. It comes with Android 16 by default, and Google promises 7 years of OS updates and security patches as usual.

The Pixel 10a will be available for purchase starting 5 March at the Google Store and through selected carriers at the price of RM2,299 – the company notes that matching phone cases will be offered in the same color options, and alongside the smartphone announcement, it says new matching color variants of Pixel Buds 2a will also be introduced to complement the Berry and Fog variants of the smartphone.
