There is a chance Ireland will be affected by stormy conditions in a matter of days
Major uncertainty in forecast for Thursday
Ireland is facing the prospect of a storm over the coming days as a low system develops around the south of the country.
There remains plenty of uncertainty in various forecasts, with some expecting Ireland to escape the worst of the impact but others anticipating considerable rain and wind arriving from Thursday into Friday.
Irish weather expert Alan O’Reilly, who mans the @CarlowWeather account on Twitter, provided an update on the storm potential for later this week.
He posted: “Still a lot of uncertainty around Thursday into Friday with the ECMWF still developing a low system hitting Ireland with wind and rain but other models have it south and or not developed as much.”
Unsettled conditions will dominate over the week ahead, according to national forecaster Met Eireann, with plenty of rain and wind forecast though temperatures will remain on the milder side.
Today, Monday February 23, will begin brightly with just scattered showers in northern areas. Rain and drizzle will develop in the south-west and spread north-eastwards into the afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 10C to 13C.
Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy and feature plenty of patchy rain, drizzle and mist but more persistent rain will develop in the west in the afternoon and spread nationwide in the evening, with highs of 10C to 12C forecast.
Wednesday will see rain gradually clear eastwards with showers following, some being heavy and there will also be the potential for hail.
On Thursday morning, showery rain will spread eastwards across Ireland and heavier rain will follow in the afternoon and evening, with strong winds possible also.
With hail possible on Friday, forecasters are keeping a close eye on the potential of a storm into the weekend.
