A Spar shop in Cabra have asked parents to talk to their kids about “hanging around the shops” after they claim staff have been racially abused, sprayed with drinks and had eggs thrown at them.

The Spar, located on Faussagh Avenue in the heart of the Cabra community, said that staff have been subjected to a number of forms of abuse and intimidation by groups of young people. They said that the issue is with children aged 10 to 16.

A statement posted to the Spar Cabra Facebook page said that they are liaising with local Gardaí to help deal with the issue. The statement asks parents if they are aware of the whereabouts of their children at night.

The post, made on Friday February 20 2026, asked: “Parents, where are your kids at night? Over the past few months the amount of kids hanging around outside the shop is getting out of hand. Our Staff have been subject to racial abuse, verbal abuse, have had food thrown at them, sprayed with drinks, had eggs thrown at them, and intimidated.

“As a business we support the community that we are Proud to be apart of. We deliver shopping to the elderly, pack bags, make breakfasts and lunch, we are here for the community when it needs us.”

The statement said that the shop is looking to the community to help solve the matter by speaking to their children and explaining to them that shop staff should not have to deal with disrespect as they go about their jobs. “Now we need you. Parents, please talk to your Children about hanging around the shops. It is intimidating to people who are trying to use the shops in the evenings, and it is unfair on our staff to have to put up with abuse from kids who are aged from about 10 to 16 years old,” the statement said.

“We are in discussions with the community gardai in Cabra. If they can identify any of the kids involved they will get in contact. We thank you for your consideration. Thanks, The Staff Of Spar Faussagh Avenue.”
